I smell a thief in what’s left of my America.
Often when a crime has occurred, law enforcement quickly looks for a motive. When my America was stolen, law enforcement didn’t seem to be all that concerned. They told ME to look for a motive and if one wasn’t clearly evident to call them back when another theft occurred. It wasn’t very helpful, but they had responded quickly (15 minutes) and they did leave me a glazed donut. I knew for sure there would not be another theft because I only had one America to take in the first place. So, left to my own devices, I tried to think of who would want to steal my America and what kind of gall it would take to do so. For some reason, all I could think about was education in my America. The education system has baffled and depressed me for years. Ever since I read Kozol’s Savage Inequalities. I highly recommend this expose into the darker side of the public school system. A more contemparary read would be this book.
Thank goodness our government has been tackling the education issue with so much fervor.
Some particularly prescient quotes from our President:
“Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?” -Florence, S.C., Jan. 11, 2000
“You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.” – Townsend, Tenn.
Is he smart enough to have stolen my America?

“If men of wisdom and knowledge, of moderation and temperance, of patience, fortitude and perseverance, of sobriety and true republican simplicity of manners, of zeal for the honour of the Supreme Being and the welfare of the commonwealth; if men possessed of these other excellent qualities are chosen to fill the seats of government, we may expect that our affairs will rest on a solid and permanent foundation.”
-Samuel Adams, letter to Elbridge Gerry, November 27, 1780
“And so, in my State of the – my State of the Union – or state – my speech to the nation, whatever you want to call it, speech to the nation – I asked Americans to give 4,000 years – 4,000 hours over the next – the rest of your life – of service to America. That’s what I asked – 4,000 hours.”
-President Bush speaking on volunteerism in my America.
Is this illegal in my America?

This is Uma Thurman. She is a wonderful actress. If any of you in my America have not seen the movie Prime, please do so now. It will make you laugh, something that I find rare in our current culture. Now, please look closely at the picture. Is there anything that would make you, if you were a member of law enforcement, suspicious. Look closely. Is there anything that Uma is doing that might be worthy of a summons? Look closer. Still can’t guess. Her thong is showing! In our increasingly arcane political system, some members of my America’s Government, have decided that thongs, bra straps, and baggy pants are just too much for our children.
A picture is worth a thousand words in my America.
What has become of our society? How do things like this happen? Every once in a while, someone commits such a heinous act, which revolts my America’s conscience so completely, that I actually feel as though my America is not lost.
At least the NFL agrees.
Congratulations, you have earned a vacation for stealing part of my America.

I don’t think Bush was golfing when he stole part of my America, but I’m quite sure it happened while he was on vacation. This President, having worked hard for an impressive and hugely successful Medicare and Social Security policy and after his brilliant war strategy was implemented, went on vacation. Then he went on vacation again, and again. In fact, during his terms, he has been on vacation more than any President in my America’s history. According to the Washington Post he has spent nearly 20% of his Presidency on his ranch. I guess when you accomplish so much, you earn the right for some Crawford downtime. I’m sure the troops in Anbar Province would agree.
